PAX East 2020: Knuckle Sandwich is One Delicious RPG Treat

In 1997, Final Fantasy VII was at the forefront of a revolution for the world of RPGs. No longer were they solely for a niche audience, as the doors burst open for the likes of Xenogears, Star Ocean: The Second Story and The Legend of Dragoon to garner more attention and acclaim. Yet when it comes to a lot of smaller, independent RPGs these days, it actually tends to be the more offbeat titles like Earthbound or Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door that seem to be more influential....

Review: Octopath Traveler II

Octopath Traveler was a game that straddled the line between contemporary gaming with classic JRPGs. The graphics were a mix of detailed realistic 3D environments with 16-bit pixel art character sprites. The combat was rooted in traditional turn-based menus but used a Boost system similar to the more recent Bravely Default. It wasn’t the most conventional approach to game design, but was released to critical acclaim and commercial success. As with most successful endeavors there’s hope for a sequel, and after being announced just a few months ago, Octopath Traveler II is finally upon us....

Roku rolls out a cheaper subwoofer and updated low-end streaming box

Rokutoday has rolled out its latest hardware, with a new subwoofer looking to hold down the low end and a new streaming box anchoring the most economical spot in that lineup. The bigger of the two releases, both literally and figuratively, is the new Roku Wireless Bass. The name pretty much explains it all: It’s a wireless subwoofer that you can plant anywhere in a room (because the low end doesn’t care so much where it comes from) to fill out that part of the sound spectrum....

Roku Voice Remote Pro 2nd Gen review: Convenient and capable

I’ve been a TV remote hog for as long as I can remember. In fact, somewhere in my father’s office is a picture of me as a baby holding on to the TV remote. What can I say other than old habits die hard? Though easily dismissed as an insignificant accessory to be lost in the couch cushions, the television remote is so much more. As someone old enough to remember remotes going from simple clickers to overly complex “universal remotes” with mini-displays and 500 buttons, I hold a deep appreciation for the beauty and simplicity of the Roku remote....
