Octopath Traveler II is the perfect kind of game for a handheld platform. I mean, It’s a JRPG that’s totally old-school, meaning turn-based combat and lots of level grinding. When you have a roughly 70-hour commitment ahead of you, do you really want to be glued to your TV the whole time? I sure as hell don’t. Sadly I have the game on PS5 so I have to rely on Remote Play. But if you’re gonna pick Octopath II up on PC, the Steam Deck is an obvious attraction. So does Octopath Traveler II run on Steam Deck? Here’s what we know.
Does Octopath Traveler II Run on Steam Deck?
Ahead of the game’s launch this week,Square Enix did indeed confirmthat Octopath Traveler II is playable on Steam Deck. In fact, it’s one of the rare games that is already marked with a lovely, green Verified checkmark ahead of launch. Usually, this takes some time after launch, as we’ve seen with the likes of Dead Space or the stupid wizard game. But (presumably, because it’s not exactly a beefy technical showcase) Octopath II is good to go out of the gate.

And if you find yourself skeptical of this assertion, you’re able to actually try it out before you buy it. Square Enix made the prologue demo available on Steam, letting potential fans give Octopath Traveler II a whirl before dropping a cool sixty smackers on it. It’s a no-brainer for fans of the first game, of course, but hey, it’s a new enough series for plenty of newcomers to pop up. Especially since the Steam Deck wasn’t a thing for the first Octopath.
