Final Fantasy 14 Hits 27 Million Players Milestone; Fan Fest to Return as In-Person Event 2023
The long-running MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 has hit another major milestone of 27 million players now registered. This news was announced during the latest Letter from the Producer live stream which feature producer and director Naoki Yoshida.
In the same live stream, it was also revealed that Fan Fest 2023 and 2024 will return as an in-person event. Last year’s Digital Fan Fest could not be held as a physical event but it looks like things are returning to normalcy as of next year.
Final Fantasy 14’s usual Fan Festival usually takes place as a mass event consisting of panels, major announcements and concerts. As with previous events, 2023 will be split into three main events, one in Las Vegas in July 2023, one in London in October 2023 and the final part taking place in early 2024 in Japan.
It’s usually at these major events when expansions are revealed, with early 2024 would be the next estimated release according to the MMO’s cycle. Last year’s Fan Fest was completely digital, having only one main event which featured the Endwalker expansion.
According to a recent interview with Famitsu (thanks aitaikimochi for the translation), Yoshida himself shared that “it wouldn’t be right to hold a FanFes without something substantial, so we plan to make this event one that’s filled with surprises and fun waiting for you…”. It’s never a dull moment when the dev team take the stage.
