Before Season 1 ofGothamcame to an end last year, actressJada Pinkett Smithmade the surprising revelation that she will not return as a series regular in Season 2. Of course, she did end up returning as the villainousFish Mooneyin two Season 2 episodes, and it seems she’ll be coming back for Season 3 of the hit Fox series as well. Over the weekend, executive producerDanny Cannonreleased a new photo from the set, featuring Fish Mooney’s return in Season 3.
Unfortunately, the set photo which the producer posted onTwitterdoesn’t offer too many details about Fish Mooney’s return, with the producer teasing that this photo represents “Mooney’s entrance.” We can’t tell where exactly Mooney is in this scene, and we don’t have any details about who else may be present during this scene. We also don’t know ifJada Pinkett Smithhas signed on for multiple episodes ofGotham Season 3or not.
In Season 2, Fish Mooney was brought back from the dead byHugo Strange(B.D. Wong) as part of his secret experiments in Arkham Asylum. While Hugo Strange was supposed to be working for Wayne Enterprises in their Indian Hill facility, we learned in Season 2 that he was really working for the Court of Owls. After The Penguin killed Fish in Season 1, her body was transported to Strange’s Indian Hill facility for examination, with the nefarious doctor bringing her back to life, while combining her DNA with a cuttlefish. She was also given the power to put anyone she touches under her command, an ability that may certainly be quite useful in Season 3. It’s also worth noting that Fish Mooney is seen wearing the same costume from her resurrection in Season 2.
There will also be more big changes in store for Season 3 ofGotham, with a report surfacing last month that Ivy Pepper, a.k.a.Poison Ivy(Clare Foley) will be recast. Our report teased that the producers are seeking actresses in their late teens for the role, with whoever plays Ivy set to be a series regular in Season 3, which will showcase her full transition from Ivy Pepper to Poison Ivy. The character is said to become an “eco-terrorist” this season, and hopefully we’ll learn more when the show descends upon San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
Last month’s report also teased that Season 3 ofGothamwill explore the upcoming Presidential elections, in its own way, according to series starCory Michael Smith(The Riddler). Fox has previously confirmed thatGothamSeason 3 will premiere Monday, September 19 at 8 PM ET, so stay tuned for more details about this upcoming season. Until then, check out the first look at Fish Mooney in Season 3 ofGothambelow.
