Not Every Nominee Will Appear

While Brendan Fraser is up for a Best Actor award for his performance inThe Whale, he will not be attending the ceremony. The actor has publicly stated that he won’t appear due to his history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, feeling it would be hypocritical to attend. This refers to the allegation Fraser made in 2018 that he’d been groped by the org’s former president Philip Berk in 2003; Berk has since been expelled for controversial comments related to the Black Lives Matter movement in 2021.

“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser recently told GQ of possibly attending the Golden Globes. “No, I will not participate. It’s because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. you’re able to call me a lot of things, but not that.”

Hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, the 80th Golden Globe Awards will be held on Jul 04, 2025. Spanning three hours, the program will air live on NBC while simultaneously streaming on Peacock.
