Hollow Knight Silksong set to release much earlier than anyone thought
Rejoice, Hollow Knight fans. After years of getting breadcrumbed and scanning for every small update on the title to get some modicum of information about when it may actually come out, huge news has finally dropped.
It’s at the point where Hollow Knight’s Reddit is one of the most active subs on the site, with people “Silkposting” and finding any way to deal with thelack of news on the title.
However, after years, we finally have some real news that indicates Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date is really coming in 2025. And it may be even earlier than anyone initially thought.
Silksong is set to be fully playable at a museum exhibit in Australia in September, meaning that’s a good chance the game will release before that exhibit debuts.
Hollow Knight Silksong is coming in 2025 (for real this time)
Hollow Knight Silksong is confirmed to be playable on July 30, 2025 by the organizers for Australia’s National Museum of Screen Culture (ACMI) and will be part of anexhibit called Game Worlds.
“Game Worlds transports you inside the levels of 30 unforgettable videogames, from global blockbusters like World of Warcraft (Blizzard Entertainment) to pioneer of the life simulation genre The Sims (Electronic Arts) and Neopets (World of Neopia), and a highly anticipated Australian title for 2025,” their site reads.
That highly anticipated game was spotted in thetrailer for the exhibit, and it’s none other than Silksong.
The event organizers alsoconfirmed the news with IGN, having this to say to the publication:
“From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game’s artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

While there’s a chance that Silksong releases after the September 18 exhibit date, it’d be bizarre to show off some of the game’s most difficult boss encounters without giving people a chance to play the game first.
As a result, this announcement makes it much more likely that Silksong will release before the date of the exhibit.
There’s apopular fan theorythat Hollow Knight’s release date is invisible publicly on Steam but hidden in the backend. So, when sorting titles by genre, Silksong consistently ends up sandwiched between games in a similar release window across several categorical searches.
Earlier in 2025, that date was around April 30. At the time of writing, it’s beenmoved further down– but not by much.
With all this evidence combined, it’s looking more and more likely that Hollow Knight Silksong is shooting for a release date sometime around August.
