Summary
With the Brotherhood of Steel and New California Republic already introduced, showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva-Robertson-Dworet tease howFalloutseason 2 will further explore the factions in the Wasteland. The Prime Video series brought Bethesda’s beloved RPG game franchise into live-action, as Ella Purnell’s Vault dweller Lucy MacLean leaves the safety of her underground bunker home in search of her father. In the final episode ofFalloutseason 1, Lucy is set on a new quest in search of answers about her family’s hidden pre-war past, sending her in the direction of New Vegas.
AsFalloutseason 2’s pre-production continues, Wagner and Robertson-Dworet teased toAwards Dailyhow season 2 will expand the world of the wasteland. With human society fractured following the apocalypse, the showrunners teased that Lucy will face many varied factions that have their own visions for the new world, and their own many contradicting histories. Check out Wagner and Robertson-Dworet’s responses below:
Graham Wagner:An element of season 1 that we touch on that we definitely want to build on in season 2 is the factionalism and tribalism that a fractured America falls into. Which has become increasingly relevant to the world we are living in as well. In season 1 there was a bit of a debate on the timeline, and in the real world we can’t even agree about the last election! So the idea that in a world that is broken down and has no communication with each other, getting consensus is going to be a really tough thing. We are really going to expand on those divides a great deal in season 2.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet:I think it also goes into that factionalism that Graham was talking about that we hope to dive into more in season 2. Obviously, with Lucy as our POV character being new to the Wasteland, she has not experienced that many factions in the first season. But the unifying instinct of all factions, both in the real world and the world of Fallout, is that they want to bring the world under their own control. Essentially, write the future. Vault 31’s ad, Bud’s Buds, and Vault-Tec are more explicit about it than anyone else is: that fundamentally what every faction wants is to control the Wasteland.
DidFallout’s Showrunners Reveal How The Series Will AddressNew Vegas' Endings?
With Wagner and Robertson-Dworet’s comments, the two showrunners may have hinted at how they will answer one of the video game franchise’s long-lingering questions. AsFalloutseason 1’s endingsent the three protagonists towards the Mojave Wasteland, viewers have looked forward to seeing characters and factions from 2011’sFallout: New Vegasbrought to screen after Mr. House’s (Rafi Silver) surprise cameo, including the other ruling families within the Strip, the Elvis-idolizing Kings of Freeside, and the Ancient Rome-inspired soldiers of the Legion. However,New Vegas' endings are varied depending on who players side with, leaving no firm canon conclusion.
10 Game Questions Fallout Season 2 Could Answer
The Fallout series still has no shortage of mysteries which the second season of the TV show could explore, especially in regard to New Vegas.
However, the two showrunners' comments indicate that theFalloutshow will not offer a firm, definitive answer to which side came out victorious in the game’s climactic second battle of Hoover Dam. Instead, the Mojave Wasteland’s many factions may still be vying for supremacy, pushing their own narrative through propaganda that states that each respective side won in a way that pays tribute to thevarious endings ofFallout: New Vegas. Wagner and Robertson-Dworet may even be hinting at inter-faction divisions in organizations, including the NCR remnants and Brotherhood of Steel, with each cell having differing ideologies.
Falloutseason 1 provided a perfect tale that made the series' core elements and concepts understandable for newcomers and created a perfect entry point into the world, and season 2 seems set to build upon those foundations. Both showrunners' hints indicate that viewers have only seen a fraction of their vision for the series' lore, and that there are still many secrets that will shake what they and the protagonists know. As such,Falloutseason 2 may also challenge viewersin deciding just what side has the best vision for humanity to thrive again in the wasteland.
