Google’sPixel seriesis known for withstanding some pretty extreme conditions. Earlier this year, Google highlighted a story of a Pixel 6asurviving for six monthsafter getting lost in a snowstorm, and now another remarkable tale about a Pixel 8 surviving against all odds has emerged.
Losing your cellphone while on vacation is one of the worst things that can happen while you’re away from home, and that’s exactly what occurred to one Redditor, who couldn’t find theirPixel 8after a weekend getaway during a Polish holiday.
The Reddit user, namedIntrepid-Ad3513, mentions they were traveling with a group of friends in Poland and stayed at an Airbnb with some amenities, particularly a hot tub. They state that one night, after having a bit too much to drink, they woke up the next morning to discover their Pixel 8 missing, on the very first day of their trip (viaAndroid Authority).
The Redditor and their friends searched high and low for the Pixel 8, but couldn’t locate it anywhere. However, after the trip was over, Intrepid-Ad3513 received a surprising video from the owner of the Airbnb they were staying at. The video shows their Pixel 8 being fished out from the Airbnb’s hot tub, which had reached a temperature of 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit). The Redditor was relieved that their phone was found, but the real question is, did it still work?

Google’s Pixel 8 offers most of the high-end Pixel 8 Pro’s key features, including a powerful processor, a great design and a stellar camera, for a lower price.
6 changes I hope Google makes to the Pixel 10a
The Pixel 9a is an impressive mid-range smartphone, and the Pixel 10a could surpass it in greatness with these changes.
After four days in a hot tub, the Pixel 8 survived
The phone took a charge like nothing ever happened
The host of the Airbnb sent Intrepid-Ad3513 their Pixel 8 back, and remarkably, after being submerged in extremely hot water for four days, the phone still worked without any issues. The Redditor plugged the phone into a charger upon receiving it, and it immediately began charging again. So if you’re wondering whether you may drop your Pixel phone in a hot tub for a few days this summer, apparently, you can – depending on the IP rating, of course (don’t actually drop your phone in a hot tub please).
…most hot tubs don’t exceed a maximum depth of 36 inches (less than a meter), which could have played a factor in the Pixel 8 surviving for so long.
The Pixel 8 has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, which means it can withstand being submerged in water at a maximum depth of six meters for up to 30 minutes. However, the Redditor’s Pixel 8 was submerged in a hot tub for four days, about 95.5 hours longer, so it’s remarkable that it stayed intact.
According to theTexas Hot Tub Company, most hot tubs don’t exceed a maximum depth of 36 inches (less than a meter), which could have played a factor in the Pixel 8 surviving for so long. Still, a hot tub contains extremely hot water, so one would think that would have some effect on the internal hardware of the phone after an extended period. But apparently not.
It’s impressive to see the Pixel 8 survive for so long in a hot tub, and it just goes to show how well Google’s flagship smartphone can hold up in extreme conditions…
One Redditorjokingly commentedthat the hot tub’s “water was probably keeping it cooler than usual,” a jab at Pixel phones, which have been known to have overheating issues in the past.
It’s impressive to see the Pixel 8 survive for so long in a hot tub, and it just goes to show how well Google’s flagship smartphone can hold up in extreme conditions, even if it’s a generation behind. Intrepid-Ad3513 writes that they composed the Reddit post on their Pixel 8 and that they will “never buy another phone other than a Pixel.” So it seems the durability of the Pixel 8 has made one happy user a Pixel owner for life now.
