Amid the SAG-AFTRA strike declaration on July 13, SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s president, Courtney B. Vance, and executive director, Cyd Wilson, composed a letter addressed to 2,700 top-earning actors within the union. The letter highlighted the financial challenges that many would encounter during the work stoppage. Dwayne Johnson’s team reached out for help soon after.

Dwayne Johnson Makes A Super Generous Donation
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, an independent non-profit organization affiliated with the union, played a crucial role in offering financial aid to numerous members of the union. Their Emergency Financial Assistance Program, which assisted actors during the pandemic, will once more be utilized to support them during the ongoing strike.
“We rely on donations and grants to provide services — we have been very fortunate that we raised enough money to be able to cover all of our programs,”Wilson explained. “But when we hit a crisis like this and we’re going to spend millions and millions of dollars in financial assistance, this is when we need our high profile talent who can afford it, who are in a situation to help others.”
Following the letter’s distribution,Dwayne Johnson’steam promptly contacted the SAG-AFTRA Foundation to express his desire to lend a hand. Consequently, Johnson and Courtney B. Vance engaged in a phone call to discuss how he could provide assistance.
According to Wilson, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation typically grants up to $1,500 to individual members, but in more critical circumstances, such as health concerns or severe jeopardy, a lifetime member may receive up to $6,000 in emergency financial aid. With Dwayne Johnson’s seven-figure donation, thousands of actors stand to benefit from the generous support.

Dwayne Johnson Coming To Hollywood’s Rescue
In a candid interview with Variety, Vance, and Wilson delved into the pressing financial challenges that working actors are currently facing, shedding light on the significant impact of Dwayne Johnson’s substantial donation in providing much-needed support for the community. On being asked about Dwayne Johnson’s donation, Wilson said,
“It’s the largest single donation that we’ve ever received from one individual at one time. And what is amazing is that that one check is going to help thousands of actors keep food on their table, and keep their kids safe, and keep their cars running. And it’s not lost on me that he’s very humble about this, but it is a way to get us started.”
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Vance wholeheartedly thanked Dwayne Johnson for his incredible generosity, compassion, and proactive approach in supporting the community during these challenging times.
