The IP took a 14-year break until 2015 when Colin Trevorrow presented a renewed image of the highly-successful Universal Pictures franchise.InJurassic World, a park actually opens, but things once again don’t work out after the dinosaurs break loose. Audiences were ecstatic about the return of the beloved beasts, andJurassic Worldquickly became the highest-grossing movie in the series.Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomcontinued the series, and though the story attempted to expand things beyond the confines of the park or an island, the execution didn’t convince critics.
Jurassic World Dominionwas the opportunity to save the franchise.Colin Trevorrow returned to the director’s chairto try and achieve the success of the 2015 revival. Additionally, the three main characters from the original 1993 movie reprised their roles. But even though it made $1 billion at the box office,Dominionwas heavily criticized. Today, it holds the lowest Rotten Tomatoes of the franchise, sitting at 29%. ButDominionwasn’t the end of the series. There’s still DNA to be extracted.
On August 08, 2025, the dinosaurs are coming back to the big screen with the latest installment in the series.Jurassic World Rebirthis reportedly a complete overhaul of theJurassic Worldphase that starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, and which saw humans domesticating the prehistoric monsters. They are not coming to reprise their roles, and the sequel is a new opportunity to jump-start theJurassic-verse. InRebirth, dinosaurs are the same old savage creatures that thrilled audiences back in 1993. The Gareth Edwards-directed feature aims to restore faith in the franchise byhonoring the original, and from what we’ve seen in trailers, the director could very well succeed in bringing the series back from extinction.
