Withproduction beginningsoon in London on Universal’s highly-anticipatedJurassic World 2, the cast continues to be filled out. Oscar nominated actor and Emmy winnerJames Cromwellhas signed on for an unspecified role in this action-packed sequel. Much like all of the other new cast members, no details have been given for the characterJames Cromwellis playing, but he’ll joinJurassic WorldstarsChris Pratt,Bryce Dallas HowardandBD Wong, who return as Owen Grady, Claire Dearing and Dr. Henry Wu, respectively.
Earlier this week, producerFrank Marshallrevealed a photo from his new office, hinting that production has begun on this sequel. While pre-production is likely still happening,The Hollywood Reporterreveals that principal photography won’t actually start until later this month, although a specific date wasn’t given quite yet. It remains to be seen how many more roles need to be filled out before filming actually begins. Still, there are already quite a few new faces that will be coming aboard for this sequel.
Along with the returningChris Pratt,Bryce Dallas HowardandBD WongfromJurassic World, new cast members includeRafe Spall,Toby Jones,Justice Smith,Daniella Pinedaand, the most recent addition,Ted Levine. It also hasn’t been confirmed ifTye SimpkinsorNick Robinsonwill return as Claire’s nephews Gray and Zach, but we have hard confirmation thatJake Johnsonwon’t be back as the unique technician Lowery. This casting exclusion does make sense, though, since the story is reportedly set off Isla Nublar, home of the originalJurassic Parkand the much more high-techJurassic World. The studio has yet to reveal an official synopsis, but that may be coming soon with production about to begin.
WhileJurassic WorlddirectorColin Trevorrowis not returning to the helm, most likely due to his involvement with Disney’sStar Wars: Episode IX, he is still on board as a producer, and he wrote the script toJurassic World 2with hisJurassic Worldco-writerDerek Connolly. Universal Pictures chairmanDonna Langleyrevealed in the fall of 2015 thatColin Trevorrowis actually developing a whole trilogy ofJurassic Worldmovies with originalJurassic ParkdirectorSteven Spielberg, who served as executive producer onJurassic Worldand also on this sequel.
