Over the years DC and Marvel have created some of the most iconic superhero and god characters of all time. Founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications, DC Comics is one of the oldest American comic book companies. Marvel began publishing comic books a few years later, in 1939 under the name of Timely Publications. The company changed to Marvel Comics in 1961.
According to the survey of the American comic book market, DC and Marvel shared approximately at least 70% of the books in the American market. And since these two comic books have been all about superheroes, there has been competition between the two. With that competition comes the fight as to which comic book or superhero is the best.
So in order to help fans know more about their favourite superhero and who is stronger than the other, Fandom Wire has compiled a list of superheroes from both Marvel as well as DC to see which superhero is more powerful than the other.
20. The Flash
Created By writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert the flash made his first appearance inFlash Comics issue#1 in the year 1940 and soon gained the nickname of Scarlet Speedster. Over the course of history there have been four people who have taken up the mantle of the Flash: Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West and the last one was Bart Allen. His powers include super speed, intangibility, superhuman agility, and can also alter time, allowing him to travel backward or forwards in time.
19. Heimdall
An Asgardian God who made his first appearance in Marvel’sJourney into Mystery issue#85 in the year 1962. Also known as the protector of Asgard, Heimdall possesses the power to see and hear anything and everything within the Nine Realms. His powers include superhuman strength, senses, stamina, and durability.
18. Shazam
Created by Artist C. C. Beck and writer Bill Parker shazam first appeared inWhiz Comics issue#2 known as Fawcett Comics, in the year 1940. Shazam’s alter ego Billy Batson speaks the magic word SHAZAM which then transforms him into the powerful god-like superhero. His powers includes superhuman strength, durability, divine empowerment, electro kinesis, magic, flight, and even immortality when he’s Shazam.
17. Deadpool
Created by writer Fabian Nicieza, along with artist and Rob Liefeld, Wade Winston Wilson aka Deadpool first appeared in MarvelThe New Mutants issue #98 in the year1991. He is famous for his obnoxious personality while his greatest superpower is his healing, an ability derived from Wolverine. This healing ability allows him to quickly regenerate any damage caused to his body. His powers include superhuman levels of stamina along with, agility, and reflexes.
16.Martian Manhunter
Created by writer Joseph Samachson and was designed by artist Joe Certa, J’onn J’onzz made his first appearance in the comicsThe Manhunter from MarsinDC issue no 225 in the year1955. One of the founding member of the Justice League of America, many consider Martian Manhunter one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. His powers include shapeshifting, invisibility, phasing, regeneration, flight, speed, and superhuman strength.
The Asgardian god of thunder Thor was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. Thor first appeared inJourney into Mystery issue no.83in 1962. When Odin died Thor not only became the King of Asgard but also became one of the most powerful Asgardian within the Nine Realms. His Superpowers include elemental powers; he can fly and has superhuman strength.
14. Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman, also know as Diana, an the Amazon Princess, was created by psychologist and writer William Moulton Marston, along with artist Harry G. Peter. Her mother Queen Hippolyta sculpted her from clay, given life by Aphrodite. Wonder Woman possesses superpowers gifted to her by the Greek gods. Her powers include super strength, invulnerability, flight, combat skill, combat strategy, superhuman agility, healing, and magic weaponry, she also has the Lasso of Truth and Bracelets of Submission, given to her by the goddess of wisdom Athena.
Robert Bruce Banner, popularly known as The Hulk, was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. He first appeared inThe Incredible Hulk issue #1 in the year1962. Hit by Gamma Particles in an accident Bruce become a Green beast. The Hulk can jump several hundred miles in one bound and can run at super speeds. He also has regeneration powers, along with an oxygenated perfluorocarbon emulsion, which allows him to breathe underwater.
12. Specter
Specter first made his appearance in theMore Fun Comics issue no.52 in the year1940. More Fun eventually becomes part of DC Comics. The specter is not just another normal superhero; it’s a cosmic entity and the physical embodiment of god’s vengeance on Earth. He has been in human forms like in Jim Corrigan’s body and then in Hal Jordan’s body. His powers include warping and controlling reality, along with time and space, he has the access to all the knowledge in the universe.
11.Hercules
Based on mythological Roman god of the same name and created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Hercules made his appearance in the Silver Age of Comic Books. Hercules’ powers include superhuman strength and immortality. The god Hephaestus forged his weapon, the Golden Mace.

10. Supergirl
She is the female counterpart of superhero Superman created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. Supergirl made her first appearance in theAction Comics #252 in1959. She is Superman’s cousin and has the same abilities as him and his know as Kara Zor-El on her planet Krypton. Her powers include, flying, impermeable, high speed, Super strength, heat vision, X-ray vision, freeze breath, superhuman hearing, and healing factors.
9. Silver Surfer
Norrin Radd was created by Jack Kirby, the Silver Surfer first appeared in the Marvel comic bookFantastic Four #48(1966). Hailing from the planet Zenn-La, Silver Surfer is known as one of the noblest and most tormented entities in the universe. His powers include the power cosmic, allowing him to absorb and manipulate the universe’s ambient cosmic energies and can also navigate space, hyperspace and dimensional barriers.
8. Captain Atom
Nathaniel Adam aka Captain Atom first appeared in the year 1960 in theSpace Adventures issue no.33.His superpowers include enhanced senses, also known as quantum-senses. His powers also help him to see the past and future as one single entity and has mental capacity, allowing him to process information like a super-powered computer.
7.Grand Master
Roy Thomas and John Buscema created Grand Master, debuting the character in 1969 inThe Avengers issue #69.Also know as the ageless Elder of the Universe and sometimes as the Collector. His power include virtually immortal body, levitation, energy blasts and being able to manipulate reality by time traveling through space, and his biggest power is being able to wish someone’s early termination simply by wishing it.
6.Superman Prime
This plot of Superman was set in the 853rd century. Superman Prime was introduced in the year 1998 through the DC One Million crossover series. He survived into this time by essentially becoming an extension of the sun. He has the same power as his normal version but increased abilities at a immeasurable level.
What is known as the child of the universe the Phoenix Force was first introduced as a Jean Grey impersonator in PhoenixX-Men issue #101 in the year1976. When the previous universe died the Force saved all existence from eternal damnation. The Force was reborn from the cosmic fires of the Big Bang, displaying itself as a giant fiery bird. Its powers include a limitless source of energy provided by the life-force. It can project energy beams, fold time and space while causing black holes.
4. Guardians Of The Universe
Commonly associated with the Green Lantern, the Guardians of the Universe appeared in 1960 inGreen Lantern vol.2, issue #1. Created by Gil Kane and John Broome. The Guardians are a race of extraterrestrials from the planet Maltus. They act as the leaders of the Green Lantern Corps. They don’t have any superpowers other than their brains. In other words, they are the nerds of all things living, always learning and adapting.
3.The Twins: Infinity/ Eternity
Created by Mark Gruenwald and Greg Capullo, Infinity appeared for the first time in 1991, inQuasar issue no.24.Eternity was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and debuted in 1965 in the Strange Tales issue 134. When they are merged together they have the power of both time and space and can obtain energy from all that exists in the spatial axis.
2.Elaine Belloc
It is the first being born from an Angel. Archangel Michael was her biological father. Due to that she also fought in the battle with Michael and Lucifer. This lead to Michael giving her his demiurgic power. Her powers were like any all-powerful all-being god and possesses the powers of omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.
1.One-Above-All
One-Above-All according to Marvel comic legend is simply responsible for all the existence of life in the Multiverse. In 1977 the One-Above-All made its first appearance in the comics theEternals issue no.13. As being the master and cosmic overseer of the entity he is also know as the Living Tribunal. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient and is above and beyond all powers and entities in the universe. That gives One-Above-All a strong claim to the title of most powerful superhero.
