“The game continues. 9.27.24,” reads a new post from the officialSawInstagram account, revealing that an eleventhSawmovie is now in the works and will be released on the 27th September, 2024. The news is sure to come as music to the ears ofSawand horror fans everywhere, who cannot wait to once again hear the screams of the latest victims of Jigsaw cry like that of some terrifying orchestra. The September release date means that the eleventhSawmovie will release around the same time next year as the tenth did this year, with Lionsgate no doubt looking at the recent success ofSaw Xand hoping to replicate it in 2024.

WhileSaw Xwas in fact largely a prequel story, taking place between the events of the firstSawandSaw II, it is currently unknown whetherSaw XIwill do the sameand bring back Tobin Bellas the serial killer Jigsaw, or whether the next installment will forge a new path.

Considering Bell’s popularity and acclaimed performance as Kramer, it is likely that the franchise will look to bring him back somehow. WhetherSaw XIbe a prequel, sequel, reboot, requel, or anything in between.

Saw Xwas received incredibly well by both audiences and critics alike and is now thehighest rated movie in the franchiseon the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes by quite some margin.Saw Xstands at a ‘certified fresh’ 80% on the site, with the next movie in the rankings being the first outing, which sits at 50%. Of course, Rotten Tomatoes is not the be-all and end-all, but it certainly demonstrates how well-likedSaw Xis among fans and critics.

Bell’s return and performance as John Kramer was widely praised, with the prequel/sequel grossing a worldwide total of $107.7 million.

Saw Xproducer Oren Koules previously offered some insights into the studio’s approach to the franchise, suggestingthere will be more moviesbeyondSaw XI.

“We’re kind of superstitious. We tend not to get too far ahead of ourselves…For us, we do have ideas for the next one, we haven’t put pen to paper. But this is his story, we really wanted it to be John Kramer’s story and tell a John Kramer story. So, for the first 30 minutes of the movie, he’s John Kramer, you don’t have any hint of Jigsaw.”
