Shōgun, FX’s acclaimed historical drama, has swept theEmmysby force with 18 wins out of more than 20 nominations. The series won the Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Frederick E.O. Toye), Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Anna Sawai), and Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Hiroyuki Sanada), in addition to their 14 Creative Arts Emmy wins, which you can see in full below:

76th Primetime Emmy Award Winners & Nominations
We’re updating the winners of the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards live, from The Bear to Shōgun.
Shōgunwas in a difficult field this year, surrounded by prestige period dramas (The Crown, The Gilded Age), beloved big-budget sci-fi shows (3 Body Problem, Fallout), and deeply acclaimed Apple TV+ dramas (The Morning ShowandSlow Horses). It’s also a bilingual series and one without the deep-pocket backing of HBO or Netflix. On top of that, it’s a remake of a previous series, and remakes have almost never won major awards. So it’s all the more impressive that this show, in just its first season, garnered nearly 20 Emmy Awards.
Shogun’s Book Is Far Darker Than FX’s Series
FX’s Shogun is dark, violent, and bloody, but James Clavell’s book is much darker.
Perhaps most heartening among all the wins was iconic Japanese actorHiroyuki Sanada’s award for Best Lead Actor for a Drama Series, something that brings him more international recognition than he has arguably ever had. Which is a great thing — this is a soulful actor who has spent decades in action and drama films delivering beautifully honed performances. Additionally,Shōgunwon the Best Lead Actress award for Anna Sawai, who has quickly risen to international fame in recent years.
