Well, the fantasy of people taking part in aSquid Game-esque series was finally completed when Netflix launched the TV series,Squid Game: The Challenge.Based on the Netflix series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the challenge seems to be working out just fine.

However, Netflix faces imminent danger as several fans are allegedly planning to sue the streaming giant. Claiming that some contestants suffered from hypothermia and nerve damage while shooting“Red light, green light”,the fans are not pleased with the Netflix challenge!

It is no secret that the Korean series became a global phenomenon upon its release. With Netflix raking in millions and series creatorHwang Dong-hyukfocusing on the next season, the streaming giant had to keep the people invested.

With the damages at hand, some fans made fun of the incident by tweeting that this was bound to happen since it was a“Squid Game-inspired show”while others tweeted that the people should take legal action against Netflix!

Well, whatever may be the case, it seems that the reality show is not worth the pain and the hassle asSquid Game: The Challengedid not receive great ratings. Although Netflix raked in millions from the show, its creator Hwang Dong-hyuk candidly revealed that Netflix did not give him a bonus.

Hwang Dong-hyuk Was Not Paid More Than The Contract!

Back before the 2021 series became a global phenomenon, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had already signed a contract with Netflix. After the series went on to earn millions, Dong-hyuk candidly revealed in an interview withThe Guardianthat he is“not that rich”.

“I’m not that rich. But I do have enough. I have enough to put food on the table. And it’s not like Netflix is paying me a bonus. Netflix paid me according to the original contract. I kept having new ideas and revising the episodes as we were filming so the amount of work multiplied.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk further continued,

“I was very financially straitened because my mother retired from the company she was working for. There was a film I was working on but we failed to get finance. So I couldn’t work for about a year. We had to take out loans — my mother, myself, and my grandmother.”

With the first episode recently released on 22 November, the next episode is set for a release date of 29 November.Squid Game: The Challengehas debuted with a rating of 4/10 on IMDB and a low of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is available to stream on Netflix.
