The promise of a next-gen patch for The Witcher 3 still looks to be on target for this year, as developer CD Projekt Red say it’s “on track” for the fourth quarter.

The next-gen update will be released for Xbox Series X|S and Playstation 5, taking advantage of the consoles' capabilities according to the devs. The exact date for the update has yet to be confirmed. The timeframe is set within Q4 of this year, meaning anytime between October and December.

The news of the update comes from CD Projekt Red’s recent earnings report which also shared that the studio has “wrapped up " the first half of the year. The first six months of 2022 have been very busy for the studio “both businesswide and in terms of operations”.

The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 has been highly anticipated over the last few years, with the upgrade originally slated for last year, but got delayed a few times. The studio has been focusing on its latest title Cyberpunk 2077 which has been receiving steady updates since launch. Earlier this year, it was announcedThe Witcher 3: Complete Editionfor Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S would be releasing this year also in Q4. It is set to have all released expansions and DLC as well as free downloadable content inspired by the Netflix show.

Just this week the developerconfirmed the first expansionfor Cyberpunk 2077 calledPhantom Libertywould be launching in 2023. the expansion will be only coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and seems to be the only planned expansion for the game. A free update was announced this week with crossover content from the Netflix seriesEdgerunners. This update added adds a new transmog system, some new weapons, cross-progression features, bug fixes and new mini-games in the form of arcade games.

The studio seems to be working on “two AAA projects” according to the financial report, but are keeping it close to their chest for now. What we do know is that CEO of CD Projekt Red Adam Kicinski shared it will be “revisiting a world which is an integral part of CD Projekt Red’s history”. We already know that anew saga of Witcher gamesis currently in development using Unreal Engine 5.
