Summary

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Deadpool #3!Formerly a despicable villain himself,Deadpoolis uniquely capable of spotting those with almost no redeemable qualities - indeed, his instincts usually dictate whether he kills someone, so they had better be pretty spot-on. In this case,Deadpool is talking about an MCU villain, one he’s currently in conflict with during his latest ongoing Marvel Comics adventure, as he refers to this villain in question as “the worst of us” - and that villain is none other than Crossbones.

InDeadpool#3 by Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio, Deadpool is in the middle of a firefight with Crossbones, as the villainous mercenary has been hired by a cult of zealots led by an all-new villain known as Death Grip to kill Deadpool. WhileDeadpool famously has a virtually unbeatable healing factor, Crossbones comes dangerously close to putting the Merc with a Mouth down as permanently as possible.

The threat-level of Crossbones is something Deadpool makes note of as he’s fighting him, but the aspect of Crossbones Deadpool is more preoccupied with is how irredeemably bad he is. “Brock Rumlow might be the worst of us”, comments Deadpool, while Crossbones is firing at him. Deadpool recognizes that Crossbones is - like himself - a professional mercenary, though he makes it clear that they are nothing alike, as Rumlow is a hired killer without a conscience, making him someone Deadpool has nothing but disdain for.

Deadpool’s Most Underrated Superpower Is Actually on the Same Tier as Marvel’s Gods

Deadpool has a plethora of superpowers, but one is easily the most underrated despite being the most powerful, as it literally makes him god-tier.

Deadpool Might Have 1 Secret Reason for REALLY Hating Crossbones: Captain America

“The Death of Captain America”Captain AmericaVol. 5 #25 by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting

Deadpool’s comment about Crossbones being “the worst of us” matched by ferocious efforts to kill him weren’t inspired by this conflict alone. If there are any reasons bubbling beneath the surface, it’s a safe bet that Deadpool dislikes Crossbones because he successfully killed a target Deadpool would never even entertain the idea of killing: Captain America. Crossbones ‘kills’’ Captain America in the post-Civil Warevent, “The Death of Captain America”. While his death didn’t stick, doing something like that would make Deadpool especially angry, given how much the Merc with a Mouth looks up to Steve Rogers.

Deadpool’s admiration for Captain America is so intense, in fact, that he killed Agent Coulson duringSecret Empirebecause the man he thought was Captain America (actually Hydra Cap) told him to. Deadpool trusted Captain America’s word that Coulson needed to die, and that was enough for him. Therefore, Crossbones ‘killing’ someone Deadpool trusts and idolizes wholeheartedly would undoubtedly make Deadpool angry, which may have carried over into the fight featured in thisDeadpoolissue.

Deadpool Finally Has the Chance to Fight Crossbones in the MCU

Since Deadpool is a character that transcends fictional mediums, it would make sense that his live-action counterpart would have the same level of disdain for Crossbones. Given that Crossbones is a villain who was featured inThe Winter SoldierandCivil War, Deadpool finally has the chance to fight that version of the character after Wade makes his official MCU debut inDeadpool & Wolverine. While Crossbones did die in Civil War, Deadpool is about to have access to TVA technology, meaning he can easily travel to a point in time before Crossbones’ death, and kill the despicable villain himself.

While the prospect of Deadpool tracking down the MCU’s Crossbones with the time-travel tech of the TVA is admittedly unlikely, his current Marvel Comics storyline would make that potential conflict redundant anyway. Deadpool is currently in Crossbones’ crossheirs, and based on his comments, there’s no other placeDeadpoolwould rather be, as that gives him the chance to put down this villain he considers to be “the worst of us” once and for all.
