Ever since gaming moved beyond the arcade machine and into the home console, it has been fairly common for games to feature more than one ending. Whether these endings are incredibly varied or just an extended ending scene affected by the player’s actions, it’s never a shock to hear about multiple endings in a video game.

9 Games with the Best Romance Options

Romance is becoming increasingly common in video games, and these offer the best romance options.

Some games even go above and beyond and include many different endings, all of which are incredibly different from each other. Others still, will include dozens of different endings and consume the lives of players who want to see them all. To admire these games and the developers behind them, here is a list of the best games with multiple different endings sorted by how many they have.

Witcher 3 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

10Baldur’s Gate 3

A World of Decisions

Baldur’s Gate 3

Topping off the list is Larian Studios’ belovedBaldur’s Gate 3. Being a Dungeons & Dragons game where the player is given complete freedom to complete quests how they want (includingvery bizarre ways)and treat characters however they wish, it’s only natural that this game would have multiple different endings as the player can affect the end-state of this world in any way they wish.

While Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have many many endings (only having 4 of them), and thus has to rank at the bottom of this list, it does feature a lot of ways to make your endings vary from each other. Because nearly every character you meet in the game will reappear during Act 3 and the climax, there are over 17,000 variations of the endings you may get! While those small variations aren’t enough to place it higher on this list, they still deserve a mention.

9Catherine: Full Body

Ending Morality

Catherine: Full Body

The originalCatherinewas one of the most unique titles released by Atlus, as it was a puzzle game from a studio that had primarily become known for releasing JRPGs. The game starred an indecisive man named Vincent who had to choose between marrying his fiance or spending time with the succubus who kept visiting him. This resulted in both constant nightmares and nine different endings that the player could obtain based on their morality.

The game’s 2019 enhanced port Catherine: Full Body, added new content to the game that included an entirely new love interest as well as four new endings, bringing the total number to thirteen. While Full Body made several changes from the original game which are considered to be downgrades, making most fans recommend the original version of the game, Full Body’s impressive ending count must be acknowledged and put on this list.

8Fate/Stay Night

The Threads of Fate

Fate/stay night: Remastered

Next up on the list is Fate/Stay Night, one of the greatest games inType-Moon’s catalog. This fundamental visual novel finally got an English release in 2024 that allowed a new generation of gamers to experience its three expertly written routes and see exactly why this cast of characters has become so iconic. While there are only three routes in this game, each is the size of a full-length game and two of them have multiple endings.

Fate/Grand Order - 10 Best Servants

A list detailing the best servants currently available in Fate/Grand Order

While Fate/Stay Night only includes 5 main endings (6 if one counts the bonus scene for getting them all), the game deserves a placement on this list for the sheer amount of bad endings the game has. If one were to count all the choices that can lead to Emiya Shirou dying and having swords grow out of his body, then the total number of endings rises to 63! While many wouldn’t consider these true endings and instead game-overs, the sheer amount of writing and text that went into them deserves some recognition.

7Nier: Automata

An Android’s Choices

NieR: Automata

Yoko Taro’s Drakengard and Nier games have become well known for having multiple endings which require the player to play through either the entire game or a sizable chunk of it multiple times. Nier Automata is no exception to this as the game boasts an ending count of 25, a number far higher than any previous Yoko Taro ending. While there are several main endings that require playing the whole game, the player can get several optional endings by taking various actions during their journey.

Now, while having 25 different endings sounds impressive on paper, Nier Automata must rank low on this list as a majority of these endings are brief text-based descriptions of silly ways the player can die. So while your ending count can theoretically go up to 25, it would be more accurate to describe the game as having 4 real endings and 21 joke ones.

6Kichikuou Rance

Conquer the World

The Rance franchise holds an interesting place in gaming history as the games are all considered highly controversial because of their contents, yet the franchise is highly influential, having begun in 1989 and having DNA which can be found in many JRPG and SRPG franchises to this very day. The franchise’s seventh game, Kichikuou Rance was during development considered to potentially be the last game in the franchise, and thus the developers went all out.

Because Alicesoft staff thought this game could potentially be their last, every future story idea for the Rance franchise was implemented into this title, creating a grand experience with 14 different endings (which each have many variations as each character in the end also has an ending card which can vary depending on how the player treated them). While this title is considered non-canon currently, with its ideas being implemented into future Rance games, it is a very notable game in the history of the franchise.

5Sakura Wars 4

Fall in Love, Maidens

Clannad is no exception to this, as each of the game’s routes will throw the player through the wringer and make them emotional as the characters all go through experiences that toe the line between being bizarre and relatable.

The amount of endings in the game totals up to 15, which is quite an impressive number when one considers how varied the routes in this game can be from one another. 3The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

The Bucket Compels You

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

The 2013 indie gameThe Stanley Parableis one of the most unique games ever released. The premise has the gamer explore an empty office while an omnipresent narrator speaks to them, going against the narrator naturally has bizarre consequences which can lead to many different outcomes for players who have the perseverance to seek them out. The game is considered one of the best meta-narratives in games and has more than earned that title.

While the 19 endings in the original version of The Stanley Parable would already be impressive enough to include the game on this list, the game’s 2022 Remake The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe would add 26 extra endings to the game! This brings the game’s ending total to 43 endings! While many of these were variants of the older endings but with a bizarre bucket subplot added, there was still plenty of new content included in this version which any gamer should seek out with Stanley.

225th Ward: The Silver Case

Suda51’s Masterpiece

The 25th Ward: The Silver Case

Next up on the list is 25th Ward: The Silver Case by Suda51. This thrilling visual novel is considered one of the greatest in Suda’s catalog and one of the best Visual Novels currently available on Steam. The game is a thrilling and mind-bending crime thriller where everything comes to a head in a large blackout where the player must choose between 100 different outcomes that determine their ending!

While the 100 endings this game has is an impressive number, one must also acknowledge that not all of these endings are built equally. Many of them last only a few seconds and none of them have any visuals at all (hence the term Blackout Ending), so while the 25th Ward undeniably deserves to be mentioned on this list, it cannot be placed any higher than this as other titles have higher quality endings.

1The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy

Fight for Humanity

The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-

Placing first on the list is The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, a very recent title that can make claim to having the longest script in gaming history. That large word count is helped by the game having 20 different routes which each have multiple endings, giving the game 100 different endings. Each route is completely unique from the others as well, keeping players on the edge of their seats not knowing what they will see next.

Unlike other games on this list which may stretch their ending count by including various short endings, Hundred Line is able to wear that large ending count with pride as nearly every route in this game is the size of a full-length game. This results in an experience where players will have to spend hundreds of hours playing the game to learn every secret that the academy holds. If you are a fan of games where your choices can change everything, then The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy may change your world.
