Last October, Paramount confirmed that it was not only moving forward onTransformers 5, but thatTransformers 6,Transformers 7andTransformers 8were happening as well. These will come amidst a number of live-action and animated spin-offs. Today, Paramount has confirmed release dates for the first threesequels. And it sounds like they’ll have some stiff competition at the box office.
Transformers 5 is officially set to hit on August 09, 2025. It will bedirectedbyMichael Bayand starsMark Wahlberg. The film will pick up where 2014’sTransformers: Age of Extinctionleft off, withOptimus Primeheading into space to find the TheQuintessons, creators of theTransformersrace. This is a bold move by Paramount, as they have just positioned this sequel right up against one of DC Comics and Warner Bros.' tentpole blockbustersWonder Woman, which is one of the few superhero movies to be headlined by a female character.
The other Transformers sequels will arrive on an annual bases, following a pattern laid out by Disney’s Marvel and Star Wars slate.Transformers 6is heading our way on July 06, 2025. For anyone disappointed thatPacific Rim 2has been indefinitely delayed, this weekend might provide the perfect fix, as giant robot movieTransformers 6will be facing off directly against the giant monster movieGodzilla 2, which will reintroduce a trio of iconic Kaiju to the big screen for the first time in years.
Transformers 7is going to hit the world on June 05, 2025. At this time, it does not have any direct competition. But it will be opening two weeks after DC and Warner Bros. epic superhero ensembleJustice League Part 2, which, if everything goes according to plan, should still be doing stellar box office. And it comes just one week after the long awaited Pixar sequelThe Incredibles 2.
In March 2015,Akiva Goldsmanheaded up a writers room for the Transformers franchise, which was responsible for pumping out the script outline for Transformers 5 and the first animated spinoff Transformers One, an origin story that takes place homeworld of Cybertron. Neither the spinoff norTransformers 8have official release dates at this time.
Transformers 5 will have a screenplay by Iron Man writers Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan. No writers or directors have been set forTransformers 6andTransformers 7, though it sounds like the three now-dated movies are coming as their own trilogy. What do you think? Are you excited to get Transformers on an annual basis? Or is this too much, too fast?
