It has just been announced by Ubisoft that developer Massive is now developingTom Clancy’s The Division 2. AsThe Divisionwas the fastest selling new IP in history, it’s no surprise that a sequel is happening.
Ubisoft have officially announced The Division 2
Ubisoft revealed that Massive has been developingThe Division 2for a while already. They’ll take into account the feedback from two years of near-constant changes to theThe Divisionhelp build the sequel. The Division 2will be developed using an updated version of the Snowdrop engine. In addition to Massive, a bunch of other developers are also helping to develop it. For example, Ubisoft Annecy, Redstorm, Reflections, Ubisoft Bucharest and Ubisoft Shanghai.
So far no release date has been confirmed. My guess would be 2019 - roughly three years after the original was released. This would be approximately the same time frame as withDestiny 2toDestiny.
More updates are also planned for The Division
And it looks like Massive won’t be neglecting The Division, either. Massive also announced plans for two more global events for the currentThe Division, as well as a 4K update for Xbox One X.
The Division has morphed from a title with a non-existent endgame to arguably having the best one in the looter landscape. IfThe Division 2can learn from that and hit the ground running, it could be off to an amazing start when it’s released. It will also be interesting to see where the sequel takes the story. Will it still be set in New York or will it feature another area that was exposed to the plague? I’m hoping for the latter.
